Project Team
Kate Rawlinson, project director and assistant director for education and public programs at The Wolfsonian, joined the museum in 1998 and has led multiple research-based education initiatives, including the Artful Truth–Healthy Propaganda Arts Project (media literacy curriculum addressing the propaganda of tobacco companies for grades 4-6); Artful Citizenship (U.S. DED funded arts-integration curriculum for grades 3-5); and Page at a Time (bookmaking curriculum focused on conflict and resolution). Thirty years of art-making, teaching, and curatorial experience inform her practice as a museum-based educator focused on creating quality learning activities and experiences for all ages.
Claudia Caro Sullivan, project consultant and former manager of youth and school programs at The Wolfsonian, is a developmental psychologist and educator specializing in creating innovative, effective, and engaging interactive and multidisciplinary media-based educational initiatives for children, teachers, and parents. She has the desire to improve teaching and learning through play and creativity in free-choice and formal classroom learning environments. As such, she has experience conducting large-scale program evaluation, and procuring federal and foundation grants. Claudia has an entrepreneurial and imaginative spirit, and is excited to continue to think of ways to make learning fun at any age.
Charlene Ortuno, project curriculum consultant, is an English teacher at iPrep Academy, a magnet high school school in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. She graduated from New York University with a BS in Secondary English Education and a minor in American History in 2001. She is pursuing postgraduate education in various ways: studied in England at a NYU and Oxford University summer program in Teaching and Curriculum (2004); received a NEH grant to study place and identity through the literature and history of the Great Plains at the University of North Dakota (2006); and is studying at Middlebury College's Bread Loaf School of English pursuing a Masters Degree in English. She lives in Miami Beach with her husband and young daughter.
Mylinh Trieu Nguyen, project art director at The Wolfsonian, is a designer and artist based in Miami. Her work explores ideas of distribution, collaboration and curation through new and appropriated systems and frameworks. She graduated from Yale University, School of Art with a MFA in Graphic Design in 2011 and a BFA from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in Design|Media Arts in 2007. She was selected as a design fellow at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, in 2008 and was the first designer in residence at Art in General in New York City, in 2010 where she organized General Public Library, a revolving, community built reference library open to the public.
Dona Altemus, graphic design intern, was born in Miami, Florida. She will earn her BFA in graphic design and painting from New World School of the Arts in 2012. She is a creative who is beginning her design career and has also interned at The Miami Herald.
Dr. Michele Parcell Mar, project curriculum consultant, has been a Social Studies teacher at both middle and high schools in Miami-Dade County Public Schools. She is currently a Government and Economics teacher at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High. She has a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Culture, Language, and Literacy from Barry University.
